Why Calendar Math Is Tricky
Months Vary in Length
Months range from 28 to 31 days. February has 28 or 29, April has 30, July has 31. This means "one month from now" is ambiguous — it could mean 28, 29, 30, or 31 days depending on which month you start in.
Leap Years Add Complexity
A year has 365 days — except every 4 years, when it has 366. But centuries skip the leap day, unless divisible by 400. So 1900 was not a leap year, but 2000 was. The rule: divisible by 4 and (not divisible by 100 or divisible by 400).
