ATV and UTV Loan Calculator what the machine really costs
Enter the out-the-door price, your deposit, the rate and the term. You get the monthly payment, the total interest and the full repayment.
Accessories Are Financed Too
Winches, tyres, freight and setup rolled into the loan carry interest like everything else.
Depreciation Outruns the Balance
These machines lose value fast. A long term is how buyers end up underwater.
How is an ATV or UTV loan calculated?
At a Glance
It is an ordinary instalment loan: a fixed payment that covers interest first and principal with what is left. What makes powersport lending distinctive is the pricing — rates typically sit above car loans because the collateral depreciates quickly, is easy to damage and is simple to move.
M = P · i · (1 + i)ⁿ ÷ ((1 + i)ⁿ − 1)According to Consumer Financial Protection Bureau guidelines on vehicle financing, the deposit reduces P directly. On the defaults, the 1,500 down saves 31.86 a month against financing the full 15,000 — and roughly 412 in interest over the term.
Work out the amount financed
15,000 − 1,500 = 13,500.
Convert the rate
9.99 % ÷ 12 = 0.8325 % per month, over 60 payments.
Apply the formula
286.77 a month. Total repaid 17,206.12, of which 3,706.12 is interest.
Try a bigger machine on a longer term
A 25,000 side-by-side at 12.5 % over six years: 495.28 a month. The payment looks manageable; the interest bill does not.
And a used quad on a short term
8,000 at 7.99 % over three years: 250.65 — nearly the same monthly cost as the six-year machine three times the price, but done in half the time.
Compare total interest, not payments. A longer term always looks cheaper monthly and is always more expensive overall. The comparison above makes the point: similar payments, very different outcomes.
Match the term to how long you will keep it. If you trade every three or four years, a six-year loan means rolling negative equity into the next machine.
A deposit is the cheapest rate reduction available. It cuts the balance immediately and often improves the pricing tier.
Dealer promotional rates are real but conditional. Zero-percent offers usually require top-tier credit and often replace a cash rebate — compare the discounted cash price at a normal rate against the full price at 0 %.
Principal and interest only. Insurance, registration, extended warranties and gear are all on top, and warranties financed into the loan accrue interest.
Fees are excluded. Documentation, origination and lien fees vary by dealer and state.
A fixed rate is assumed for the whole term, which is normal for powersport lending.
Depreciation is not modelled. These machines can lose a large share of their value in the first two years, so on a long term the balance can exceed the resale value for much of the loan.
Your rate depends on credit, machine age and whether it is new or used. Enter the rate you were quoted rather than a market average.
