How the AP European History score is calculated
Your two section scores are weighted: 40% multiple choice and 60% free response produce a weighted composite percentage. 55 MC (40%) + SAQ (20%) + DBQ (25%) + LEQ (15%). That composite is then compared to the estimated score bands — a 5 from about 75%, a 4 from 62% and a passing 3 from 48%.
Important: this is an estimate. College Board does not publish exact raw-to-scaled cutoffs; the curves are reverse-engineered from recently released exams and shift by ±2–3 points each year. For other subjects, open the AP score calculator hub.
