How the AP Computer Science Principles score is calculated
Your two section scores are weighted: 70% multiple choice and 30% free response produce a weighted composite percentage. 70 MC (70%) + Create performance task & written responses (30%). That composite is then compared to the estimated score bands — a 5 from about 90%, a 4 from 81% and a passing 3 from 62%.
Important: this is an estimate. College Board does not publish exact raw-to-scaled cutoffs; the curves are reverse-engineered from recently released exams and shift by ±2–3 points each year. For other subjects, open the AP score calculator hub.
